This course will explore Adobe Illustrator CS software through investigation of tools and applications that produce designs for the print, web and multimedia industries. Students will also learn how to utilize the power of Illustrator to create type, color and special effects.

Adobe Photoshop - Creative

This course will explore Adobe Photoshop CS software through an investigation of editing applications that are widely used in the print, web and multimedia industries. Students will learn techniques that range from selecting objects to creating, editing and composting images.

Adobe InDesign - Creative

This course will explore Adobe InDesign CS software through investigation of page layout in a cross-media environment. Students will learn how to integrate InDesign applications with those of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat software to accurately produce pages that are ready for any output device.

Webpage Creation - Part 1

Students will be given hands-on activities to develop World Wide Web pages using Hypertext Markup Language. Using HTML, students will learn how to incorporate graphics, hyperlinks, tables, data-entry forms and Java applets -- all this without programming, using point-and-click web page creation software.

Microsoft Office-Intermediate

Students will develop intermediate level skill in Windows-based personal computer software including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access and MS PowerPoint.

Microsoft Excel-Part 1, 2003

The student is introduced to using workbooks in a graphical environment. Skills developed include entering labels and values; building and copying simple formulas; using Wizard to enter simple functions; and formatting and printing reports.

Microsoft Excel-Part 2, 2003

Students develop skill in building more complex formulas, working with multiple worksheets, presenting data in charts and utilizing powerful data management features, including but not limited to pivot tables.

Microsoft Excel-Part 3, 2003

Students will create data tables, use scenario manager, database query techniques, create more flexible pivot tables, customize Excel, create macros, as well as link and embed data.

Microsoft Access-Part 1, 2003

Students are introduced to database concepts in the graphical Windows environment. Students will learn to design and create relational database tables, update table information, query and design simple forms and reports. Practical cases present real-world problems.

Microsoft Access-Part 2, 2003

Students will develop skill in creating more advanced queries and custom forms, in customizing reports and integrating Access with other programs. Access will also be used as part of the Internet.

Microsoft Access-Part 3, 2003

The student will learn Query Wizards and Action Wizards. Additionally, the student will automate tasks with micros, create custom toolbars, write limited Visual Basic code and learn how to create a switchboard.

English 1

An introductory course emphasizing thinking processes and practice in organization and developing clear expository and persuasive writing. Examination of content and structure of essays will provide background for writing. Instruction is provided for improvement of sentence structure and usage.

English 2

The intent is to give students further training in composition, and to enlarge their understanding and appreciate of the genres through analyzing and writing about fiction, drama and poetry. Major attention is also given to the preparation and writing of the research paper.

Creative Writing

This course is designed to give students the opportunity to write and critique their own literary efforts. Emphasis is on developing individual style in the particular area(s) of interest � short stories, poetry, plays, and articles.

Contemporary Literature

The study of representative authors and significant literary movements in post-1945 prose and poetry.

Native American Literature

This course focuses on Native American poetry, novels and short stories. Members of the class will examine the works of contemporary and traditional Native American artists.

Contemporary Civil Rights

This course familiarizes the student with the period of history commonly referred to as the modern civil rights era, 1953 to 1969. It introduces the student to the events, individuals, social, political, and religious linkages, and activities that give this period its historical relevance and prominence.

America Through 1877

A survey of the history of the United States from 1500 to 1877. Emphasis is placed on colonial development, the movement for independence and the establishment of government under the Constitution. Special attention is devoted to the evolution of political democracy, economic developments, the emergence of the sectional controversy leading to the Civil War and the period of Reconstruction that followed.

America Since 1877

The major developments in United States history from the 1870s to the present are traced. Attention is focused on industrialization, urbanization, development of the West, reform movements and the emergence of the United States as a world power.

Introduction to Hotel/Hospitality Management

The student traces the development of the hotel/motel industry from early inns to modern high-rise and commercial hotels and highway motels. The organization of the hotel, including food and beverage operations, is discussed.

Javascript Part 1

This is an introduction to the JavaScript programming language. It introduces fundamental coding techniques such as design, assigning numeric and character string data to variables, simple formulas, decision statements, logical structures, loops, buildt in library functions, and professional coding form. The course focuses on the design and code writing of interactive JavaScript programs. The student will develop introductory problem solving skills, structured coding style, and logical thinking.

JavaScript Part 2

This is a continuation of JavaScript Part#1. It explores intermediate JavaScript coding techniques such as arrays, complex formulas, string manipulation, and form interaction. The course focuses on the design and code writing of interactive JavaScript programs. The student will develop intermediate problem solving skills, structured coding style, and critical and logical thinking. Prior JavaScript coding experience is required.

Data Communications

This course is designed to allow the student to understand data communications terminology, basic fundamentals, and concepts of data communications networks, network management, security and network design. Communication services and applications are discussed.

Advanced Programming with C++

Advanced topics in C programming will be covered including portability of code, effciency of code, debugging strategies, strategies for developing user interfaces, object-oriented programming concepts and usage, structures, pointers, file and DBMS interfaces, and software development kits. A differentiation between C and C++ will be discussed.

Visual Basic Programming.Net

The student develops interactive, event-driven Windows applications. Toolbar and Toolbox are used to create buttons, scroll bars, menus and dialog boxes. Also included are programming procedures, error handling and communication with databases and other applications.

Visual Basic Programming 2.Net

This course will cover advanced Visual Basic topics beginning with interactive, event-driven Windows applications that students developed in Visual Basic Programming.

Database Management With SQL

This is a fundamental course in database concepts, design and implementation involving the relational database mode. Students will create, query and update relational databases using Structured Query Language (SQL) and the Oracle database management system.

Advanced Web Development

This course covers web development using server side scripting. It includes database access with SQL and technologies such as XML, ASP, and CGI/Pearl.

Microsoft Server Administration MCSA

In this course, the student prepares for the Microsoft Certification exam 70-215--Installing, Configuring, and Administering Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.

Web Systems Management

Students will focus on the management of web server hardware and software. Server/network monitoring software will be implemented to evaluate the systems performance regarding e-commerce transaction volume and website traffic. When is web traffic and transaction volume the greatest? What is the impact on the web server? Can the system be scaled up?

CompTIA I-Net +

This course covers Internet basics, TCP/IP networking, Internet services, HTML programming, Internet development, site administration, and business concepts. Additional topics include bandwidth technologies. Web clients and services, site functionality, virus protection, and security concepts.

Network Security (CompTIA Security+)

Students will focus on the fundamentals and implementation of network security including secure access methods and vulnerabilities in network protocols, operating systems, and network applications. Students will use techniques and tools for developing secure applications in secure network environments.

Web Maintenance and Security

Students focus on website maintenance such as making content changes to sites using tools such as JavaScript, monitoring traffic/transaction volume, implementing backup procedures and installing software upgrades to a web server. Security will be a major component, discussing access control, virus problems and firewalls. Hands-on exercises will allow students to demonstrate competencies in the areas listed above.

Programming in C

A study is made of the capabilities of the C programming language. The student will learn how to create, edit, execute and debug C programs. Operations, relations, data structures and library functions are emphasized.

Mathematics for Computer Science

This course includes the skills of mathematics needed to function in the world of technology. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving and those topics that relate to computers and information analysis. Topics include strategies for problem-solving, sets, Venn diagrams, logic tools, number systems, rules of calculation, scientific notation, measurement systems, basic probability, and statistics. A brief review of algebra and its application in programming and spreadsheets is also included.

Computer Applic. for the Liberal Arts and Sciences

This course introduces the role of computers in society, integrated applications software (word processing, database, and spreadsheet), e-mail, and the World Wide Web. Emphasis is on the computer as a problem-solving tool in education, social and natural sciences, and liberal arts.

Introduction to College Mathematics

Topics include a review of operations with numbers, fractions, decimals, calculator skills, formulas and percents. Problem solving skills are developed through business and consumer applications that include simple and compound interest. Algebraic techniques are used to simplify problem solving.

Intermediate Algebra

This course prepares students for College Algebra (MATH-201) or Finite Math (MATH-205). Topics include sets operations, properties of real numbers, order of operations, linear equations and inequalities, algebraic solution for systems of linear equations and inequalities, relations, functions and their graphs, operations with polynomial and rational expressions, operations with rational exponents and radicals, algebra of functions, inverse functions, logarithmic and exponential functions, conic sections, and a wide variety of applications in all topic areas.

Apparel Marketing

Merchandising fashion goods -- men's, women's, children's apparel and accessories -- is studied. Current trends in each classification of goods are discussed. Continuous review of retailers' trade papers emphasizes the current aspects of fashion merchandising and local applications are cited. The process of merchandise creation, from designer inception to consumer, is examined.

Business Career Management

This course prepares business workers for managing their career in a positive direction. It stresses the importance of setting progressive career goals, developing personal traits for career and life success and implementing career management strategies which guide an individual's life-career planning process. The course focuses on understanding one's interests, values, skills and lifestyle preferences and employing effective job search strategies including developing effective resume writing and interviewing skills. Personal skills which contribute to career success are highlighted including developing a winning attitude and other positive work behaviors, practicing business etiquette and creating a professional image.

Electronic Commerce

This course provides an overview of electronic commerce. Business models underlying these electronic commerce applications are studies from both an operational and strategic perspective. A review is made of WWW technology trends including electronic payment and related issues of authentication, security, privacy, intellectual property rights and tax implications.

Advertising

Students will study the principles of advertising in relation to the overall marketing process, using practical applications to reinforce studies. PowerPoint, Excel, and the World Wide Web are used in the development of projects. The course includes an in-depth examination of all media in the communication process.

This course examines, analyzes and evaluates marketing issues facing firms wishing to employ the World Wide Web and other emerging electronic media. The class combines lecture, discussion, case study, student presentations and computer laboratory assignments.

Introduction to Nutritional Science

This course is an introductory experience in human nutrition. It is designed to satisfy basic nutritional course requirements for college students entering allied health programs and provide practical and interesting nutritional information for nonhealth majors as well. This course provides correct, scientifically-based information needed to answer basic questions related to nutrition.

Earth Science

This course introduces the student to the fields of geology, meterology, astronomy, and oceanography. It emphasizes humans' continually evolving techniques of exploring both the past and the present world and universe.

Science of Technology

This course explores the workings of common devices found in everyday life. Using the discovery method, students learn how things work around them. In the process, students learn the basic principles of physics on which these devices are based. Examples include copiers, radios, television, CD players, computers, lasers, microwave ovens, airplanes, electric motors, air conditioners, automobiles, tape recorders, thermostats, and more. By exploring these devices, students learn the concepts of mechanical advantage, motion of fluids, principles of thermodynamics, electric and magnetic forces, electrodynamics, electronics, electromagnetic waves, optics, and more.

College Physics 1

This is a first-semester physics course to study the principles of mechanics and heat. Calculus is not required. Laboratory work involves the analysis of data using computers.

Environmental Science

This course introduces basic scientific principles necessary to an understanding of the relationships between humans and the environment with special focus on the effects of humans' activities on the environment.

Pathophysiology: Disease Process

Pathophysiology provides students with an understanding of the relationship between the mechanisms of disease and normal physiology. Topics include alterations in cellular and genetic mechanisms, metabolic abnormalities, fluid and electolyte imbalance, infection, immunology, and cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, respiratory, and neuromuscular dysfunctions.

Weather Fundamentals

This course assists students whose work and interests require a general knowledge of atmospheric science. Applications appear in agribusiness, architectural design, insurance underwriting, environmental control, health and safety occupations, water resource industries, fabrication of materials (textiles, paint, plastics), physical geography and oceonography.

Climate Change Fundamentals

This course examines critically our understanding of climate and its causes, the evidence of past and present climate change, and models of future climate change as well as the probable impacts of climate change on society and implications for future energy resources and the economy.

Office Technologies

This course offers skill development in Windows 2000, web page development, Internet/e-mail, wireless devices (PDA/Palm Pilot), scanner, CD-burner, digital camera, MP3, poma, NetMeeting, and computer concepts.

Keyboard and Keypad

Using a computer, the student will learn keyboarding using the touch method. Emphasis will be placed on correct fingering skills, accuracy and speed.

Business English Essentials

This course is designed to improve oral and written communication skills. Study of English fundamentals, including parts of speech, agreement, sentence types, and plurals and possessives, as well as rules for punctuation, capitalization, number usage, and spelling and vocabulary, are emphasized.

Microsoft Word-Part 1

Using MS Word 2000 software, the student will format, type and print documents; edit a document using simple editing features; manipulate multiple-page documents; and create and edit simple tables.

Microsoft Word-Part 2

Using MS Word 2000 software, the student will merge documents; print labels, create reports using table of contents, thesaurus, grammar checker, bookmarks and styles; and customize templates. The student will also create a newsletter using desktop publishing with object insertion, charting, frames and border.

Fieldwork Seminar

This course addresses issues relevant to the concurrent Level 2 fieldwork experiences with emphasis on case study research, professional issues and ethics, resume-writing, interviewing skills and employment opportunities. State certification requirements and preparation for the national certification exam will be provided.

Health Psychology

Students examine how psychosocial and behavioral factors influence health and disease processes. They will also analyze the relationship of individual and environmental factors to the development and management of specific diseases.

This course surveys diachronically the major figures and doctrines of Western philosophy from classical antiquity to present times. The course also involves discussions of fundamental philsophical questions--especially questions having practical socioethical implications.

Death and Dying

This course will concentrate upon the historical and sociological background of the customs and practices related to death and dying in the United States and other countries; the emotional reactions and adjustments to death and dying; and indentification of services and resources.

Juvenile Delinquency

Income Taxes 2

A continuation of Income tax laws as they apply to individual, partnership, S-corporation, C-corporation, and fiduciary tax entities. Provides a general background to the elements and characteristics of business law and ethics. Emphasis is placed on how business law is structured and how it functions in our society. Intro To Computing For Healthc

Provides an introduction to basic computer functions and applications utilized in contemporary healthcare settings. Students are introduced to the hardware and software components of modern computer systems and the application of computers in the workplace. Emphasizes the use of common software packages, operating systems, file management, word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, and electronic mail.

Principles of Customer Service in Healthcare

Introduces customer service for students interested in working in various healthcare settings. Investigates healthcare systems, safety standards and the workforce. Examines professionalism, interpersonal and written communication skills, and confidentiality as they relate to customer service in healthcare.

Business Proofreading Skills

Improves proofreading skills through a review of common business errors in punctuation, number usage, grammar, capitalization, word choice and spelling. Computer-editing tools and reference resources are used to produce error-free copy.

Database and Spreadsheet Skills

Introduces the creation of databases and spreadsheets from the group up. Students develop formulas and functions to solve business problems. Emphasizes designing database tables, relationships and queries. Students also develop skills in formatting spreadsheets, tables and queries, as well as in customizing charts and graphs.

Editing Applications

Prepares students to edit documents generated from voice-recorded material and text files applying proofing techniques to produce mailable copy. Mailable copy includes accuracy in English usage, punctuation, number usage, spelling and formatting documents. Keyboarding skills in word processing are applied.

Information Storage and Retrieval

Prepares students to inspect, index, code, sort, store and retrieve business records according to ARMA indexing rules using alphabetic and numeric storage and retrieval systems. Through practical simulated experience, students apply the principles and practices of effective hard copy and automated information control.

Microsoft Office - Intermediate

Chiropractic Ins. App. Internship

Provides field experience in the chiropractic health setting for the learner in the Chiropractic Technician program. Chiro Office Procedures Internship

Provides learners with on-the-job office procedure experience in a chiropractic office setting. Expands professional insights as learners share internship experiences and practice skills such as scheduling patients, collecting payments, demonstrating phone answering skills and filing records.

Complex Health Alterations II prepares the learner to expand knowledge and skills from previous courses in caring for clients across the lifespan with alterations in the immune, neuro-sensory, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, renal/urinary and the reproductive systems. The learner will also focus on management of care for clients with high-risk perinatal conditions, high-risk newborns and the ill child. Synthesis and application of previously learned concepts will be evident in the management of clients with critical/life threatening situations.

Introduction to Treatment Processes

Provides an overview of the different processes used in wastewater treatment plants, as well as the collection system and sludge disposal procedures. Covers calculations used to determine plant loadings, detention times and percent removal efficiencies. Environmental regulations, preventive maintenance practices and basic safety precautions are also covered in this seven-day class.

Process Equipment Maintenance

Develops skills in identifying and applying maintenance tools, correcting collection and distribution system problems, and performing preventative functions related to the overall optimization of water and wastewater treatment facilities. The structure and function of major equipment is explained. Various lab tests and the calculations associated with them are presented. Safety is emphasized throughout the course. Water Supply

Provides environmental and treatment information necessary to operate a portable groundwater well system. Basic distribution system design and component use will also be detailed. Students examine a groundwater treatment plant and make operational assessments based on established industry criteria.

Determines operational procedures necessary to produce a safe and aesthetically appropriate water supply for human consumption. Students recommend designs for water treatment plants based on established industry criteria. This course provides the student with an object-oriented view of the Visual Basic development environment. Some of the topics covered include classes, instance, encapsulation, polymorphism and inheritance. Responsible Beverage Service

Educates owners/operators and employees of the food and beverage industry on responsible beverage service and retail tobacco sales. The course fulfills Wisconsin Statutes which requires new applicants/bartenders/operators to complete training before a license is issued. A certificate will be awarded upon satisfactory completion of the course.

Water Quality Internship

Provides an on-the-job learning experience. With direction of an employer and supervision of a Moraine Park instructor, the intern performs duties of a water/wastewater operator in a water/ wastewater plant. The intern spends 216 hours working in a water and/or wastewater plant.

Introduction to Web Site Design

Focuses on basic design, development and publishing of web sites using Microsoft Expression Web software including an introduction to the code being produced by the software.
