Principles of Industrial Hygiene

Prepares the learner to anticipate, recognize, and control occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals and physical stresses; conduct exposure monitoring; research regulations, literature, and other documents on occupational illness and disease; and evaluate exposure control procedures and pratices for basic toxocology, air quality, noise, vibration, blood-borne pathogens, temperature extremes, radiation, and ergonomics.

Nursing Complex Health Alterations 1

Complex Health Alterations 1 prepares the learner to expand knowledge from previous courses in caring for clients with alterations in musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, and hematologic systems, as well as clients with fluid/electrolyte and acid-base imbalance and alterations in comfort.

Microbiology

This course examines microbial structure, metabolism, genetics, growth and the relationship between humans and microorganisms. Disease production, epidemiology, host defense mechanisms and the medical impact of microbes in the environment, industry, and biotechnology are also addressed.

Nursing Complex Hlth Alter 2

Complex Health Alterations II prepares the learner to expand knowledge and skills from previous courses in caring for clients across the lifespan with alterations in the immune, neuro-sensory, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, renal/urinary and the reproductive systems. The learner will also focus on management of care for clients with high-risk perinatal conditions, high-risk newborns and the ill child. Synthesis and application of previously learned concepts will be evident in the management of clients with critical/life threatening situations.

Nursing Pharmacology 2 credit

Introduces the principles of pharmacology, including drug classifications and their effects on the body, and emphasizes the use of the nursing process when administering medications.

Nursing Health Alterations

This course elaborates upon the basic concepts of health and illness as presented in Nursing Fundamentals. It applies theories of nursing in the care of clients through the lifespan, utilizing problem solving and critical thinking. This course will provide an opportunity to study conditions affecting different body systems and apply therapeutic nursing interventions. It will also introduce concepts of leadership, team building, and scope of practice.

IA: Positive Classroom Management Techniques

This course examines the impact of issues such as divorce, alcoholism, child abuse, youth suicide, stress, violence and gangs on behavior in the classroom. SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT ...develops skills & knowledge needed to create and manage a small business including planning, staffing, location, product presentation, pricing, promotion, and product distribution.

Principles Of Microeconomics

Introduces, describes, and analyzes how markets work emphasizing what they do will and how they fail and how individuals, businesses, and governments choose to use scarce resources. Includes descriptions, analyses, and critiques of various methods of government intervention within the economy. Analyzes business decisions with regard to cost analysis, output determinations, the price system, and resource markets. Analyzes current issues using economic concepts such as income distribution, monopoly, and efficiency. Discusses current topics such as the environment, international markets, and trade.

Medical Terminology

Focuses on the component parts of medical terms: prefixes, suffixes and word roots. Students practices formation, analysis and reconstruction of terms. Emphasis on spelling, definition and pronunciation of medical terms. Introduction to operative, diagnostic, therapeutic, and symptomatic terminology of all body systems, as well as systemic and surgical terminology.

Introduction to Psychology

This course surveys the methods, principles, and theories of psychology as they are applied to understanding, predicting, and modifying human behavior. Essential theoretical perspectives, including cognitive, humanistic, socio-cultural, psychodynamic, learning, and biological/evolutionary inform an understanding of key topics in psychology, among which may include the brain and behavior, development, emotion, memory, motivation, personality, psychological disorders, sensation and perception, and thinking and intelligence. At the successful completion of the course, students will be well prepared for more advanced study in the field of contemporary psychology.

MS POWERPOINT, BEGINNING...develops skills in using basic graphics, layout, and slide show features to produce professional-looking presentations.

MS Excel, Beginning

MS EXCEL, BEGINNING...develops skills in using basic spreadsheet functions of MS Excel for business users.

Music Appreciation

Introduces music elements such as rhythm, melody, harmony, and texture in vocal and instrumental forms to analyze and appreciate music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and the 29th century. Composers studied include Pope Gregory, Josquin Desprez, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Dvorak. The course is lecture and guided listening with analysis and discussion. Students will be required to attend concerts, listen to music, and write reports. Lecture. 3 credits.

Technical Reporting

This course covers the principles of report writing and correspondence, proposals, feasibility reports, progress reports, investigation reports, evaluation reports, meeting reports, memos, and correspondence.

Ethics

Explores contemporary moral problems including animal rights; capital punishment; environmental ethics; euthanasia; job discrimination, sexual harassment and affirmative action; reproductive choices; race and ethnicity; world hunger, and poverty.
